By Design: 6 Tenets for a Safer Internet

How social platforms can prevent online harms with Safety By Design

Recently, there has been a seismic shift in the way the world looks at internet safety and how user-generated content like chat, comments, images, and videos are shared.

World governments are introducing new laws, financial penalties, and even prison time for failing to quickly identify and remove online harms such as cyberbullying, abuse, violent threats, terrorism, and child exploitation. The UK recently released the Online Harms White Paper, a collection of recommended legislative measures, including Duty of Care compliance, to keep users safe online.

For the first time in history, the collective global will exists to make the internet a safer place. Two Hat believes that this is a shared responsibility between industry, government, non-profits, and end users.

Inspired by consultation with industry leaders, our customers, and recommendations we made to the UK Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport, we have outlined six tenets we can all follow to create an internet that’s both safe and scalable by design.
